I try to mainly cover anti captivity stuff and the dolphin slaughter in Taiji Japan and pilot whales "Grindadráp" at the Faroe Islands... And other stuff!!

About the first image, "Granny" (J2) has passed that lifespan, she's 104 now!

Sorry, don't have facebook. My wife does though. Off topic - Have you been to Belize by any chance?
We're going there in November.

I've never been there mate and I don't think it's that popular around my circle of people, Mexicans usually go to Costa Rica, Panama etc.

I suppose there are great hotels though!

Yeah, I heard that crossing the border from the Yucatan is a fun process.

Great Hotels? LOLOLOL More like Hostels and boarding houses. There are a few resort places, but nothing like Conzumel. And Belize City gives Nuevo Laredo and Baltimore a run for their money. My wife's into snorkeling and it's one of the best places to do it at.

iRacing is just a giant money sink for a "sim" that is still subpar to LFS.

Project Cars is NFS Shift 3. It's NOT a racing simulator.

Project cars is pretty good. I haven't played it enough to know all the pros and cons, but it really doesn't compare to LFS feel wise and there's no real multi-player for it. Asynchronous racing..... WTF is that? And the PC version requires a computer that costs as much as a real race car if you want all the bells and whistles. PC does have cool go karts though.
You know, you'd think that by now someone would have a racing title out there to at least be the equal of LFS. It's only a 12 year old game.....
All the console games (forza, Grand Tourismo 13 or whatever and some title that REALLY sucked) I tried plus the PC version of Project Cars have physics that are only a little better than Grand Theft Auto.
At least in that game you get to run over pedestrians.... Which ought to be an option in LFS seeing as we can now freely drive around the whole track configurations. I'd love to plow into a line of people waiting to use the restroom or get nachos or something.

I dunno... since I started playing again, I like this x box controller better than the wheel (did I type that too loud?) Yeah, the wheel sucks.
Calibration issues are a thing of the past with this x box controller.
I mean the wheel is nice and all, especially a G25. But at that price, you can almost buy a real car. I made the mistake once of spending too much money on a video game controller. If I just have to use a wheel, I 'll hack my account and play it on my son's computer. He has the G25.
LOL because of his job, I doubt he likes video games much anymore. but I do know that he uses LFS as a benchmark when judging/testing other titles.
I don't even bother with online anymore. It's like Salt Lake City on a Tuesday night....Dead.
Plus, after a 60 mile work commute in gridlock with a bunch of morons, if I want to play LFS at all, I DON"T want to play nice.

Quote from Matrixi :All these silly biker gangs should just chill the f*ck out and watch Sons of Anarchy, instead of killing other people/each other.

Got a mirror visor with a slight tint for my Arai today, no more sunglasses that keep fogging up.

No... this is a little different than just that. It's how the police handled it and apparantly are getting away with it.
I guarantee you that out of those 150 plus "OMG" in there, very few are in any of the fighting clubs or had a clue about what was going on. Most of those people are just idiot weekend warriors. The ons that watch the sons of anarchy too much. Not the real deal. But thanks to the over action, quite a few people have lost jobs over this that don't need to be in there in the first place. And there are questions as to what bullets went where. Even as much as who fired the first shot.
Like I said, I could care less for that whole scene. I had a co-worker, who now sells Harleys that was all into that crap and bugged me about joining her going to them stupid things. All it really is, as far as I can tell, the whole Confederation of Clubs thing, To me is a bunch of yahoos paying the Bandidos for the privilege of having a "MC" on a stupid vest. Some Bad ass bikers they are. Most wouldn't know what a clutch cable was if it b it them on the ass. But all that aside, That really isn't the point. This is just more of the same Ferguson crap, just with a new and more colorful cast.
I made the mistake of going on a toy run once. It almost got us killed. (cars weaving in and out plus a lot ALOT of inexperienced riders) I really don't think I'll be going, Plus, Waco sucks in general.

Anyhow, Weird ass helmet. Looks cool. Kinda like that old Black Sabbath Album cover.

Man.... Getting a lot of dirty looks from the po po after the Waco incident. Yeah, they know what they can do with their dirty looks.
There's supposed to be a support rally called 1 for all this Sunday.
Was going to go even though I think I like clubs less than the cops.
Looked up a couple of clubber web sites and am more worried about getting into a wreck with a weekend warrior.
Oh well, hopefully the Bandidos will take care of this stupid problem - and thin both herds out in the process.

But i like the new westhill very much too. Much more realistic track layout and very challenging to get it right. I am really looking forward to the tyre-physics update to complement the realistic track.

Believe it or not, but Fern Bay is actually pretty realistic. I've been to Jamaica and seen a race track there.
It kinda looked like a miniature version of Fern Green. It was at the base of a hill. On top of that hill was a mansion that belonged to Lennox(sp?) Lewis, a former boxer.

a) demotivation
b) certainly people would buy LFS instead of cracking, not all.. But the current culture is like hhmm I can get it for free so do it for free. Cracked servers are even better occupied then legal servers. It's crazy!
c) If you take away some capabilities to host something completely on your own, beyond master control, then it's hackable but if not, again like Iracing, then it's not possible. You cannot hack an online bank too do you?

Without increased security I don't see much future for LFS and concerning programming time; some specialist can make work of that. Doesn't need to be done by one single person because thats too much work (probably).

Anyway, more content doesn't generate more people anymore, so much is obvious. So people asking for even more content at this point its quite useless thing to do.

Old S2 members didn't even try the new Westhill yet (yeah offline for three laps and it was great! => I don't believe those stories).

uhhh... I like the new Westhill. Still can't figure out why they made the gokart tracks though. Are there Go karts in the future or something?
But yeah, you're right... I didn't really start playing with it til a couple a days ago.

And yes it are thousands of hacks (cheats is something different). And yes there can be done something about it. It starts with ideas.. Not with whining.. From former players. Size of Iracing has nothing to do with the system, no idea why you mention that anyway. Pointless.

When I said "cheats" I mean people that are cheating the system...

I agree with what Eclipsed said...the largest majority of these people would never buy LFS anyway, so you have very little to gain.

Of course the amount of people working on Iracing compared to LFS makes a difference. I see this situation in the same vain as setup stealing....Scawen could spend time preventing it but within 5 minutes some spotty kid has broken the code and within a week everyone can do it.
I do not agree with stealing software and it would not be how I would play LFS even if today was my first day...but then 24 quid is nothing in todays world of gaming and micro transactions...add-ons...etc

Again...what is to be gained by preventing people stealing it when they will never buy it anyway....why spend anytime coding or whatever when that time could be spent on actual game improvements, as a paid member I do not care about what other people do...only what I can have.

Stealing LFS.... I don't know who'd be all that interested. I mean the people that like LFS already have it.
Racing games may do so-so sales wise on consoles, but on a PC? And LFS in particular is pretty hardcore as far as racing games goes. I seriously doubt it gets pirated all that much. Sure it's out there, but I just don't see people stealing it playing it for as long as what demo players play it.
Coders.... extra coders. If the project was more ambitious than what it is, then yeah more coders would be nice. But I think the way LFS plays out, extra coders would just mean extra arguments and even less getting done and lol more getting re-done.
So let's say S3 finally does get done in my lifetime. What then? Again, I'm not seeing flocks of new players cropping up. I don't see many more people that don't already have an S2 license getting it. And not all that many of the S2 players upgrading either.
After it has been released after a period, where will the interest in S3 be? How long will it be before the servers go back to being ghost towns?
My daughter still plays Unreal Tournament. LOL she's like one of twenty people on the planet that do so.
I think that will be the way of LFS, S3 or not.

Check out our Kea if you want an intelligent non human animal.
"Kea can solve logical puzzles, such as pushing and pulling things in a certain order to get to food, and will work together to achieve a certain objective.[5] They have been filmed preparing and using tools.[6]"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kea

"Their curiosity leads them to peck and carry away unguarded items of clothing or to pry apart rubber parts of cars — to the entertainment and annoyance of human observers. They are often described as "cheeky". A kea has even been reported to have made off with a Scottish man's passport while he was visiting Fiordland National Park.[25]"

Usually they are more the Jeremy Clarkson of the animal world, "F the Police !"

And this.

Crow vs Kea in scientific intelligence tests.

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/notrocketscience/2011/06/08/crows-and-parrots-%E2%80%93-brainy-birds-but-in-different-ways/#.VWQMuFWqpBc

"Animal intelligence isn’t a single thing. There is no standard IQ test for them to sit, and no universal checklist of skills to score them against. Instead, animals have evolved mental abilities to cope with different lifestyles and environments. Many early studies into animal intelligence simply looked at whether animals could or couldn’t perform specific tasks. But it’s far more interesting to see why and how they do different things, and how their own particular brand of intelligence has evolved.

That’s why Auersperg, along with Alex Kacelnik from the University of Oxford, decided to work with two of the planet’s brainiest birds – not to pit them against each other, but to understand how they differ."

"Keas are notoriously inquisitive and attracted to new things. In its native New Zealand, it uses it beak to explore (and destroy) everything from nests to picnic baskets to windshield wipers. All of Auersperg’s keas immediately (and violently) explored all four openings in the box, pulling, tearing, scratching and probing at them. “They seemed to approach the apparatus in a playful, toddler-like manner,” she says. Most of them tried to overturn the box, which Auersperg had to nail to the floor. One of them, Luke, even broke the Plexiglas."

I didn't read any of your links yet, but I know there was an African Grey Parrot at the University of Arizona that could read and engage in conversation with humans.
I have heard of all sorts of antics from parrots in New Zealand. I remember one case of a flock of them taking turns ringing a door bell to annoy the people inside the house.

LOL One day I got one of those stupid telephone sales calls. I let my bird "answer" the phone. I picked up the phone and put it next to his head. He never really messed with phones before, but he knew from watching everyone else to say "hello". Poor bastard he didn't realize that there was a voice on the other end.
They say hello back, he freaks out and lets out one of his trademarked high decibel squawks.
Hopefully the idiot on the other end used that experience as justification to find a new job.
Tools and birds. My bird knows how to operate a cigarette lighter. Well he understands the concept. He's not afraid of fire. He associates it with food. I haven't seen him actually get one to work (it was a bic) He knew to spin the roller but he couldn't spin it fast enough to spark.

Crows, I think I've heard pigs are very intelligent too, etc.

Pigs? They're about as smart as a dog.
Crows.... Ravens? about 1990 or so, ravens were observed in Japan throwing nuts down at cross walks in traffic intersections. They did this so the cars would run over the nuts when they had a green light. When the light turned red, the ravens would go and pick up and eat the nuts that got crushed open.
This ability somehow spread top the West coast of the US. A few years ago, I noticed ravens starting to do tat here.
At first you can assume that all these birds got this same idea as a coincident. But when you look at the time frame between observations and that these observations are starting out west and moving east, It looks a lot like learned behavior being passed about.

Dogs are as smart as a 2 year old kid, that's very intelligent I guess if we talk about animals, so pigs are intelligent too!

Ravens, crows, birds! They know how to use tools to get food out of difficult places... Your comments about them learning from west to east is interesting!

Yeah I thought that was interesting as well.
What I think is strange is how much more intelligent wolves are than dogs. Or at least that's what I've been led to believe. I haven't really kept up with any research on it.

Quote from Chrisuu01 :Some trouble in bike land for me today. It's got this very apparent stutter when trying to accelerate hard in a higher gears like 4th and 5th
(5 speed). Whilst 1st 2nd and 3rd seem to be absolutely fine.

My friendly mechanic suggested I'd check the crabs for contaminants in the fuel like water or hard residue from the tank.

So I checked by emptying the float chambers on 2 of the carburettors. The one on the far left and the far right. The left hand one emptied quite fast, but appeared to have what looked like tiny water droplets in it. Whilst the one on the right dripped fuel at an almost asthmatic rate and quantity. It also looked like it had some hard black coal like residue in it. Perhaps some old solidified petrol that accumulated in that carb?

I recently performed a spark plug and air filter change. And it's been doing this since my last fill up. Could I have some form of petrol contamination going on? Or is my bike somehow running either supper rich or way to lean at full throttle?

Are there still things I could check with very limited tooling and experience?

This will sound stupid, but it might work. It WILL work if it's a case of bad gas. What you need is about 1-3 grams ( a bottle cap full) of acetone.
You can buy it off the shelf labeled as fuel stabilizer. Various brands make it. Sea Foam is popular.
Or you can raid your sister's room and steal some fingernail polish remover - it's the same thing.
Pour some of that in your tank first. Yeah. It sounds like you have bad gas. If that's the case, this trick should do just fine. It'll also increase the performance of your bike for a little bit. Over do it though and all your gaskets start to corrode.
This trick requires no tools. Only an ability to loosen and tighten gas caps Smile

Also, with rice burners, especially older or higher mileage bikes, a little gunk in the carbs really isn't a bad thing.... a LITTLE bit that is. It helps with sealing things. If you do a rebuild on the carbs and clean off ALL that build up you're going to get some vacuum loss (learned this the hard way)

Uh you mentioned performance slacking on acceleration in 4th and 5th, but not the other gears. Unless you're changing from 1st, 2nd and 3rd in lower rpms than what you're doing at 4th and 5th.
But are you getting any sort of popping sound?

One more word of advice, unless you're a mechanic, DON"T take off the carbs from the motor. You do that, you clean the carbs, replace the parts that need it, get the vacuum seal up just right.... when it comes time to put them back on the bike, you now have a worse problem for yourself than when you started. You now have to sync the carbs. And that's a pain.

Yeah the article is nice, I was trying to look for another one I read about a month ago but I couldn't find it in my Facebook, I think somebody took it off the internet, it was about dolphin intelligence... Very extensive article but really nice.

@Racer X NZ

Nice book! I downloaded it and will try to give it a read... Next to the many others I have pending to read on the list lol.

Yes, dolphins should be treated as non-human persons! I once read an article (I think it was the same I'm saying to Racer Y) that said the dolphin's brain evolved much faster than ours but then it halted and man's evolved a bit more... So at some point in time they were the most intelligent beings on Earth!

@ColeusRattus

I did watch it, but found it too depressing!

I don't think that the dolphins are undisputed #2 anymore. There is some debate as to whether Killer Whales are actually smarter. And I own a Scarlet Macaw. Throw in that guy, African Grey parrots and timber wolves into the mix and gets even harder to distinguish. Let's not forget the Humboldt Squid either.
Research shows these other species are proving to be extremely high in intelligence as well.
Especially the African Grey and Humboldt Squid.

There are some videos on Youtube where you can see some orcas harassing others at Seaworld.

Badass dolphin lol.

Oh yeah, they fight amongst themselves, but outright homicide... lol mamicide? Nah, I was wrong about that.
I don't think they should be kept in captivity no matter what.

Yeah, that dolphin. You know he never made a sound. None of that singing noises you always hear about.
Yeah you think after all the fish he snagged from me he could've at least did a couple of flips or something.

I was wade fishing once and this dolphin Poked his head up right beside me and was looking at me. He really didn't look so friendly, in fact he wasn't.
So what this dolphin is doing is watching me. Then he focuses on the rod.
I get a strike on the line, the dolphin magically disappears.... so did the bite I had on the line.

Orcas do not love mankind, they're intelligent and recognize the men who are holding the food until they jump through a hoop.

Orcas kill people in tanks.

Btw, don't go to visit Kiska in Niagara Falls.

Killer Whales Are some of the smartest animals on the planet. And like us and Chimpanzees, they kill for fun.
There was a captive killer whale that lived up to his name. He killed three trainers the exact same way.
Since he was a whale and not human, it was determined that it was not his fault. Same M.O. waited for the exact moment to strike...
No. It was his fault. The killer whale knew exactly what the results would be from his actions.
He was a Serial Killer Whale. Read up on serial killer research, then look at the details of this particular whale. He has all the symptoms of a typical sociopath except the playing with fire part.
There was talk of releasing this whale. If they do, humans won't be the only ones recklessly killing off ocean life.

Who would win in a fight between a Great White Shark and a leopard?

Are you talking about Tilikum? He's stressed out, he kills because of the way he feels. Other killer whales and dolphins have committed suicide for the same thing.

Also, they don't kill "for fun", they kill to eat and out of frustration.

I don't remember the name of the whale.
Yeah they do kill for fun. Or for sport, if you want to be polite about it. They kill a lot of time in the wild just to teach the young how to hunt. but sometimes all that can be guessed is... boredom.
As far as the serial killer whale goes... He killed each victim the same method. Grabbed them in the same spot waited til they were in the same position.... Just like Ted Bundy did when he pretended to be hobbled on crutches outside of his van. The stress of being confined, just like his human counterparts took a toll.
But no this whale had a psychotic streak from the get go.

I don't know much about the Finnish people except they evolved from marine mammals instead of primates, hence the name "Fin"
But Sweden?
The history of Swedish People goes back millenia. They were originally from N.America around the Northern Great Plains in Minnesota. There they thrived until the White man came. AS with all the other native tribes, the US government wanted to confine them to a reservation. The St.Paul/Minneapolis reservation. Later, greedy land developers looking to build a football stadium in the area started giving the Swedes on the reservation little viking hats - filled with small pox. Curious of you guys, anyone do any paddling? I'm looking for some conversation. There's not much out there discussion wise on paddling. I'm finding more discussion on other forums than on the few paddling specific forums I've found.

Been wanting to get into a kayak for some time. Finally had this girl attach herself to the top of my car...

https://www.dropbox.com/s/yhsye7e8ax90ycs/IMG_20150421_175111.jpg?dl=0

She's not an expensive boat, but picked it up real cheap used. She's 13 foot, kind of an inbetweener of a rec boat and a touring boat. Sealed bulkheads front and rear at less than the price of the garbage pool toy 10 footers they sell at the big box stores around here. Unfortunately water is still way too cold as I don't have cold water gear to wear at the moment. That might come next year.

Anyone else? Those in the UK, I visit Songofthepaddle.com now and then which is a UK based paddling forum. Seems that you guys over there prefer canoes over kayaks. Kayaks are getting more and more popular over here, probably a lot more than canoes on this side.

This month was 20 years at my place of employment. We get a gift every 5 years from a catalog. Previous anniversaries there wasn't much worth even ordering but the catalog seems to have been revamped. For 20 years I snagged a JVC Addixion action cam pretty comparable to GoPro. At my age, I'm not an adrenalin junkie any more, but this will be mounted to the boat. Like my cycling, I'll be more of a get-out-in-nature kind of paddler floating down the calm river and streams and exploring the nooks and crannies of the local lakes on the lookout for bald eagles and such.

Figured we discuss paddling on the bicycle and the RC forum I frequent, may as well strike up a discussion here. Hope to jump back into the photo discussion here with some shots this summer from the water as well.

Yes! My wife has all the photos. One of the places we go has alligators. Those animals are so cool.
and alligator gar. Those fish are huge They come up under the bottom of the kayak to rub against it
and it picks the kayak up out of the water!
WE have two 12 footers.... and I just can't think of the name of them. They're sit-in Kayaks. They don't do so great out in the Gulf (of Mexico) but in Bayous and rivers and marinas they work pretty good.

Racer X NZ - Thanks, I'll see if I can find this William Gibson, guess it's in book form or online reading? Also, don't you think local knowlege and language will be important in the future? Sure, most things can be fixed online, but some matters will be needed to sort out on the companies physical adresses by humans that speaks something else than east europeen language or chineeze (wrong spelled)?

Hi. Unfortunately, I don't know squat about programming, but I do know a little about the IT industry itself.
Here? Basic programmers and web designers are a dime a dozen.
My son does coding, development and other crap for a video game controller company. He does OK. He barely finished High School and works with people that look like Big Bang Theory rejects.
But one thing of advice I can give. Don't get your education just to get a job. Get it for yourself.
You want to learn how to code and all that? Great. But if you think by going to school and learning all that, just so you can get a job, it probably won't turn out as well.
I imagine if you aimed for a certain industry, Like Bio-engineering or geophysical or banking or whatever and tailored your skills to fit that industry as opposed to just being an all around programming guru, you'd do better that way.

My job.... It technically requires TWO degrees and being a licensed structural engineer would help.
I don't have any of that. I also barely finished high school and LOL I'm one of the top people in my field.
Funny thing is, making all those skins back in the day for LFS cars really boosted my career and gave me an edge against my educated competition.

As far as careers go... engineering. Structural, software, mechanical, civil. It doesn't matter. Pick one. If you can wrap your programming/coding skills around one of those, you'll do just fine

The college education racket in this country sucks. And I can't stand how those over edumicated @ssholes screwed over people in this country with Intellectual extortion. I can go on for days about it. So it's kinda hard for me to supportive of people wanting to go one of those places.
I understand the need for higher education. But when that industry worked itself into a position to where you have to go through it to get anywhere job-wise, where 20% of your tuition goes to paying a basketball coach, where with tuition being so expensive you better pray you get a decent job or you'll be in college loan debt for life. Yeah. Higher education (?) here sucks.

Uhhh... anyways good luck.
